And that taking seriously the Bible, whether you’re a Jew or a Christian means engaging some very exciting claims. Do we have a future? What is the future like? Is there a God? Has he given up on us? Did someone create the world and then say the hell with it? That’s the deist. That was the founders of America. Christians and Jews don’t believe that today.

But those who went through the Holocaust—Christians did too, don’t forget— find it very difficult to find a God who is present and loving today. I do. I always point out who won World War II. Don’t forget all those miracles.

How was it possible that the Jews got the promised land again? Was that a miracle or just a fluke? What is going on? And who is ahead of us?

Each of us can answer that in our own way. And I’m not about to program thoughts. But I have a very strong conviction that the best is yet to come.
